Sayyiduna Imam Abu Bakr Bin Muqri رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْہِ has stated that once he and his two companions Sayyiduna Imam Tabarani and Sayyiduna Abush-Shaykh رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـهُ تَـعَالٰی were present in Madinah Munawwarah. They had not eaten anything for two days and were extremely hungry. At the time of ‘Isha, Sayyiduna Imam Abu Bakr Bin Muqri رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْہِ came to the sacred grave of the Holy Nabi صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ and humbly said: ‘یَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ! اَلْجُوْع’ O Rasool of Allah, hunger!
He did not say anything else and returned home. He goes on to say that thereafter, he and Abush-Shaykh went to sleep, whereas Tabarani began to wait for someone. Soon, there was a knock at the door. When they opened the door, they found an ‘Alawi noble person accompanied by two servants with trays of food in their hands. That person said, ‘Perhaps you have requested the Holy Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ for food. He further explained, I had a dream in which I beheld the Holy Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ who commanded me to provide you with food.’ He then ate food with us, gave us the remaining food and left.
May Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ have mercy upon him and forgive us without accountability for his sake!
The Gathering of Giants in Madinah
The narrative begins with three legendary scholars of Islam gathered in the illuminated city of Madinah Munawwarah:
Imam Abu Bakr Bin Muqri (a masterful Hadith narrator)
Imam Al-Tabarani (the renowned compiler of the Ma'ajim Hadith collections)
Imam Abush-Shaykh (another massive authority in Islamic jurisprudence and history)
The Humble Plea at the Muwajahah Shareef
When the time for the night prayer ('Isha) arrived, the hunger had become unbearable. Driven by pure reliance on Allah and deep love for the Messenger, Imam Abu Bakr Bin Muqri walked to the sacred grave (Muwajahah Shareef) inside Al-Masjid an-Nabawi.
Standing before the resting place of the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ, he did not make a long, elaborate speech. He simply presented his state with two heavy, heartfelt words:
"یَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ! اَلْجُوْع"
"O Messenger of Allah! Hunger!"
Without uttering another word, he turned and walked back to their modest lodging. His action was rooted in the deep-seated belief that the Prophet hears and cares for his Ummah.
An Unexpecting Answer in the Night
Upon returning home, the three scholars reacted differently to the situation. Exhausted and weak, Imam Abu Bakr Bin Muqri and Imam Abush-Shaykh lay down to sleep. However, Imam Al-Tabarani remained awake. Possessing a deep spiritual anticipation, he sat quietly near the door, waiting to see how the spiritual plea would manifest in the physical world.
Before long, a sudden knock broke the silence of the night.
The Prophet's Command in a Dream
The noble guest looked at the hungry scholars and immediately asked, "Perhaps you have requested the Holy Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ for food?"
He then shared the incredible reason behind his late-night visit:
"I was asleep just a short while ago, and I beheld the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ in my dream. He commanded me directly: 'Go and provide food to those who have requested it.'"
The noble descendant did not just deliver the food; he sat down and shared the meal with the scholars as an act of humility and blessing. Before leaving, he gifted them the remaining food to ensure they would not face hunger in the days to follow.
Spiritual Takeaways
This well-documented account, preserved by classical scholars in texts like Jazb-ul-Quloob and Wafa-ul-Wafa, serves as a powerful reminder of several core Islamic principles:
The Living Connection: It shows the traditional belief that the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ remains connected to his Ummah and is aware of their struggles.
The Honor of the Ahl al-Bayt: The Prophet chose his own descendant to carry out this act of mercy, highlighting the noble character inherent in his family line.
Sincerity in Need: The brief, two-word prayer of Imam Bin Muqri shows that sincere, heartfelt reliance on spiritual means can move mountains—and bring sustenance from unexpected places.
