Hadith
3:
Ibn ‘Adī narrates from Umm
al-Mu’minīn Umm Salamah (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا)
that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)
said:
شَفَاعَتِي لِأَهْلِ الْبَكَائِرِ مِنْ
أُمَّتِي
“My intercession is for those from my Ummah who have been
ruined by their sins.”
Indeed,
this is the truth!
O
my Intercessor, may I be sacrificed for you!
صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ “May
Allah send blessings upon you!”
Hadiths
4–8:
Abū Dāwūd, Tirmidhī, Ibn Ḥibbān,
Ḥākim, and Bayhaqī (with authentication) narrate from Anas ibn Mālik (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
Tirmidhī,
Ibn Mājah, Ibn Ḥibbān, and Ḥākim narrate from Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
Ṭabarānī
in Al-Mu‘jam al-Kabīr narrates from ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا).
Khaṭīb
al-Baghdādī narrates from ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (رَضِيَ
اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا) and Ka‘b ibn ‘Ujrah (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:
شَفَاعَتِي يَوْمَ
الْقِيَامَةِ لِأَهْلِ الْكَبَائِرِ مِنْ أُمَّتِي
“My intercession on the Day of Judgement is for those of my
Ummah who committed major sins.”
صَلَّى اللَّهُ
تَعَالَى عَلَيْكَ وَسَلَّمَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
“May Allah send blessings and peace upon you, and all
praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.”
Hadith
9:
Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn ‘Alī al-Baghdādī
narrates from Abū al-Dard ’ā(رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ)
that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)
said:
شَفَاعَتِي لِأَهْلِ
الذَّنُوبِ مِنْ أُمَّتِي
“My intercession is for the sinners of my Ummah.”
Abū
al-Darda (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) asked:
وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ
سَرَقَ
“Even if they committed adultery and theft?”
The
Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)
replied:
وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ
سَرَقَ عَلَى رَغْمِ أَنْفِ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ
“Even if they committed adultery and theft, despite the
disapproval of Abū al-Dard’ā!”
Hadith
10 & 11:
Ṭabarānī and Bayhaqī narrate from
Buraydah (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
Ṭabarānī
in Al-Mu‘jam al-Awsaṭ narrates from Anas (رَضِيَ
اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ
عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:
أَنَّ أَشْفَعُ يَوْمَ
الْقِيَامَةِ لِأَكْثَرَ مِمَّا عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ مِنْ شَجَرٍ وَحَجَرٍ
وَمَدَرٍ
“I will intercede on the Day of Judgement for more people
than the number of trees, stones, and clods of earth on the surface of the
earth.”
Hadith
12:
Bukhārī, Muslim, Ḥākim, and Bayhaqī
narrate from Abū Hurayrah (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
(The
following wording is from Ḥākim and Bayhaqī.)
The Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:
شَفَاعَتِي لِمَنْ
شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ مُخْلِصاً يَصْدُقُ قَلْبُهُ لِسَانَهُ
“My intercession is for every person who sincerely
testifies that there is none worthy of worship except Allāh, with a heart that
affirms what the tongue has declared.”
Hadith
13:
Aḥmad, Ṭabarānī, and Bazzār narrate
from Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal and Abū Mūsā al-Ash‘arī (رَضِيَ
اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا) that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:
أَنَّهَا أَوْسَعُ
لَهُمْ وَهِيَ لِمَنْ مَاتَ وَلَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا
“Intercession is vast for my Ummah, as it is for every
person who dies without associating anything with Allah.”
Hadith
14:
Ṭabarānī in Al-Mu‘jam al-Awsaṭ
narrates from Abū Hurayrah (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ)
that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)
said:
آتِي جَهَنَّمَ
فَأَضْرِبُ بَابَهَا فَيُفْتَحُ لِي فَأَدْخُلُهَا فَأَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ مَحَامِدَ
مَا حَمِدَهُ أَحَدٌ قَبْلِي وَلَا يَحْمَدُ أَحَدٌ بَعْدِي ثُمَّ أُخْرِجُ
مِنْهَا مَنْ قَالَ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ
“I will come to Hell and strike its door, and it will be
opened for me. I will then enter it and praise Allah with praises that no one
before me has ever expressed and no one after me will express in the same way.
Then, I will remove from it every person who has sincerely said, ‘There is no
god but Allah.’”
Hadith
15:
Ḥākim (with authentication),
Ṭabarānī, and Bayhaqī narrate from ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا) that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:
يُوْضَعُ لِلْأَنْبِيَاءِ مَنَابِرُ مِنْ
ذَهَبٍ فَيَجْلِسُونَ عَلَيْهَا وَيَبْقَى مِنْبَرِي لَا أَجْلِسُ عَلَيْهِ أَوْ
لَا أَقْعُدُ عَلَيْهِ قَائِمًا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَبِّي مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَنِي
إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَيَبْقَى أُمَّتِي بَعْدِي فَأَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ أُمَّتِي
أُمَّتِي فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّوَجَلَّ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ مَا تُرِيدُ أَنْ
أَصْنَعَ بِأُمَّتِكَ ... فَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ عَجِلْ حِسَابَهُمْ فَمَا أَزَالُ
أَشْفَعُ حَتَّى أُعْطَى صِكَاكًا بِرِجَالٍ قَدْ بُعِثَ بِهِمْ إِلَى النَّارِ
حَتَّى أَنَّ مَالِكًا خَازِنَ النَّارِ يَقُولُ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ مَا تَرَكْتَ
لِغَضَبِ رَبِّكَ فِي أُمَّتِكَ مِنْ نِقْمَةٍ
“Golden pulpits will be set up for the Prophets, and they
will sit upon them. But my pulpit will remain, and I will not sit upon it;
rather, I will stand before my Lord, fearing that He may send me to Paradise
while my Ummah remains behind. So I will plead, ‘O my Lord, my Ummah, my Ummah!
’Allah (عَزَّوَجَلَّ) will say, ‘O Muhammad! What do you want
me to do with your Ummah? ’I will reply, ‘O my Lord! Hasten their reckoning.’
'I will continue to intercede until I am given the release decrees for men who
had already been sent to Hell, to the point that Mālik, the keeper of Hell,
will say: ‘O Muhammad! You have left no room for your Lord's anger upon your
Ummah.’”
May
Allah grant us the honour of benefiting from the intercession of the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) on the Day of
Judgment. Āmīn.
Hadiths
16–21:
Bukhārī, Muslim, and Nas ā’īnarrate
from Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
Aḥmad
(with a Hasan chain), Bukhārī (Tārīkh), Bazzār, Ṭabarānī, Bayhaqī, and Abū
Nu‘aym narrate from ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (رَضِيَ
اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا).
Aḥmad
(with a Hasan chain), Bazzār (with a jayyid chain), Dārimī, Ibn Abī Shaybah,
Abū Ya‘lā, Abū Nu‘aym, and Bayhaqī narrate from Abū Dharr (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
Ṭabarānī
in Al-Mu‘jam al-Awsaṭ narrates from Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
Ṭabarānī
in Al-Mu‘jam al-Kabīr narrates from S’āib ibn Yazīd (رَضِيَ
اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
Aḥmad
(with a Hasan chain), Ibn Abī Shaybah, and Ṭabarānī narrate from Abū Mūsā
al-Ash‘arī (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ).
The
narration follows the wording of Jābir (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ
عَنْهُ) in which he reports that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:
وَأُعْطِيتُ مَا لَمْ يُعْطَ أَحَدٌ
قَبْلِي... وَأُعْطِيتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ
“I have been given that which no one before me has been
given... and I have been granted intercession.”
These
six hadiths state that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ
عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:
“I
have been appointed as an intercessor, and intercession has been granted
exclusively to me. No other Prophet was given this position except me.”
